Reconstitution Calculator

Work out solution concentration and the exact volume to withdraw for research peptides. Enter your vial and diluent, pick your syringe, and read the measurement on the scale you use.

Your Measurement Readout

  1. Reconstitute the vial with 2 mL of bacteriostatic water.
  2. This gives a solution concentration of 5.00 mg/mL.
  3. To withdraw 250 mcg, draw to 0.050 mL, which reads 5 on your selected syringe scale.
  4. Store the reconstituted solution refrigerated. See the Storage & Handling guide.
How to use Enter the amount of compound in your vial and the volume of bacteriostatic water you will add. Enter the amount you want to withdraw and select your syringe. The calculator returns the solution concentration and the exact volume to draw, shown in mL and on your syringe scale. 1 mL equals 100 on a 100-scale syringe. Add diluent slowly and draw carefully for accuracy.

Your Solver Readout

  1. Your vial contains 10 mg of compound.
  2. To reach a target of 5.00 mg/mL, add 2.00 mL of bacteriostatic water.
  3. Every 1 mL of the resulting solution will contain 5.00 mg of compound.
  4. Add diluent slowly down the vial wall and swirl gently. See the Reconstitution Guide.
How to use Enter the amount of compound in your vial and the concentration you want your final solution to be. The solver returns exactly how much bacteriostatic water to add, plus how much compound sits in every 1 mL of the finished solution. Useful when you are standardizing multiple vials to a common concentration.

Reconstitution Tips

  • Use bacteriostatic water for multi-use solutions; it contains benzyl alcohol to inhibit bacterial growth.
  • Add diluent down the vial wall, never directly onto the powder.
  • Never shake the vial; swirl gently until dissolved.
  • Refrigerate after reconstitution to preserve stability.
  • Swab the stopper with alcohol before each withdrawal.
  • Inspect for clarity; a good solution is clear with no particulates.

Reconstitution Calculator FAQ

How do I calculate peptide concentration?+

Divide the amount of compound in the vial by the volume of diluent you add. A 10 mg vial reconstituted with 2 mL of bacteriostatic water gives a concentration of 5 mg/mL. The calculator does this automatically and also converts to mcg/mL.

How do I work out the volume to withdraw?+

Divide the amount of compound you want by the solution concentration. From a 5 mg/mL solution, withdrawing 250 mcg (0.25 mg) means drawing 0.05 mL. The calculator returns this volume and shows where it falls on your selected syringe scale.

What does the number on the syringe scale mean?+

A graduated syringe is marked on a scale so you can read a precise volume. On a 1 mL (100-scale) syringe, 1 mL equals 100 on the scale, so 0.05 mL reads as 5. The calculator converts your withdrawal volume into the reading for whichever syringe you select, so you can measure it accurately.

How much bacteriostatic water should I add?+

That depends on the concentration you want. More diluent gives a lower concentration and a larger withdrawal volume per unit of compound; less diluent gives a higher concentration. Use the Target Concentration tab to enter your desired mg/mL and get the exact diluent volume to add.

Can I use regular water to reconstitute peptides?+

Bacteriostatic water is the standard diluent for research reconstitution because it contains a small amount of benzyl alcohol that inhibits bacterial growth, giving multi-use solutions a longer usable window. Plain sterile water has no preservative and suits single-use reconstitution only. Tap, distilled, and filtered water are not appropriate. See the Reconstitution Guide.

How long does a reconstituted solution last?+

Reconstituted peptides are stored refrigerated and used within the working window for the compound and diluent. Evaluate the solution for clarity before use, and discard anything cloudy or discolored. Full temperatures and timelines are on Peptide Storage & Handling.

What size syringe should I use?+

Use the smallest syringe that comfortably fits your withdrawal volume, because a smaller barrel gives finer graduations and a more accurate reading. A 0.3 mL syringe suits small volumes, 0.5 mL covers most withdrawals, and 1 mL handles larger draws. Select your size in the calculator to see the reading on that scale.
